Although ancient Greece and Rome had both adopted the beliefs that
water had healing properties, it was the Romans that integrated
hydrotherapy into their social life, building temples and baths near
natural springs. However, Father Sebastian Kneipp from Woerishofen, Bavaria,
is the true father of modern-day hydrotherapy in Germany.
I am trained
in various hydrotherapy massage techniques, which typically require special
equipment. Although I do not own this equipment, I do always recommend my
patients the most effective treatment if they have access to mineral baths
or similar facilities. Active techniques for water therapy are diverse and
I will tailor them to the individual patient. Exercises are mostly simple
routines performed in a shallow pool.
I also work with hot/cold
therapies that are applied with a wet hot towel. I use this form of
hydrotherapy as preparation for a deep tissue massage as
trigger point, and
also for stress relief and
relaxation as it softens the muscles.
